Artist Statement

My paintings are reactions to beautiful moments, each becoming an interaction between me and my memory of that moment. The language of my painting begins with the intrigue of my own sensation of being personally diminished by the vast openess of the sky, making me feel as if some fundamental truth is revealed by the sense of being dissolved into space. Clouds set a mood for the landscape. Light or the lack of light, create dramatic changes in the colors of both sky and earth. By abstracting from reality and using non-traditional colors and different sizes of paper or canvas, traditional sky scenes may be seen through new sets of lenses. It is my hope that the viewer will join me in pausing to explore the immensity of the universe in this very personal way.

Biography

Laura Draper Boardman a native of Utah. Mrs. Boardman lives part time in Salt Lake City and spends much of her time in Torrey, Utah. In Torrey she’s very involved with the local art scene and is constantly exploring with local art friends the beautiful landscape and surrounding areas (Capitol Reef National Park & Boulder Mtn).

Laura Boardman is a current member of the board of directors of the “Salt Lake Art Center” and a former member of the board of directors of “Artists of Utah”, a non-profit association for young talented artists.

Laura Boardman has a strong business background from years of owning “Boardman Designs”, a full service interior design firm, owned and operated by her for seventeen years.

After the sale of Boardman Designs, she attended the University of Utah and achieved her BFA in painting and drawing, and is very pleased to be a full time artist now.
