Daniel Logé
Artist’s Statement
”A good painting should have a life of its own. Creating quality artwork requires a certain working attitude that is triggered by acting on a great idea. I draw my inspiration from real life experiences and enjoy the challenge and processes involved in producing great art....”
-Daniel Loge
A native of upstate New York, Daniel Loge spent much of his childhood exploring the outdoors. The banks of the Niagara River and the surrounding upland woods and creeks provided him with a host of opportunities to experience nature firsthand. Early on, Loge’s mother introduced him to oil painting in a makeshift studio in their kitchen. Later he became inspired by the work of Winslow Homer. He has been painting landscapes and wildlife full-time ever since.
Loge, a sportsman as well as an artist, believes there are similarities between hunting and painting wildlife. He explains, “I devote the same intensity, conviction, and respect to hunting that I do to painting.” His work captures the subtle nuances of the natural world and unforgettable moments in time rendered in oil paint. Loge is known for his innate ability to reveal a glimpse of the mystery within each subject. He paints from memory, using photographs only for reference.
Loge graduated from Spectrum Institute for Advertising Arts in 1979 and later studied computer animation. In 1975 his work was chosen as the cover for the Cabela’s Spring Catalog and in 1982 he won first-place in the Long Island Duck Stamp Contest. More recently he was included in the Top Twenty List in the Federal Duck Stamp Contest and was awarded the Silver Medal for Best of Show, Philadelphia Wildlife Art Exposition.
